Untitled Fossil (detail looking west), 1991, AUSTRALIAN PERSPECTA - Western Sites Component, 31m x 50.5m x 75cm, basalt, red clay, shale and sand from the surrounding quarry at New Penrith Lakes Development Site.
I made a fossil-like image to allude to the fossils, and evidence of tool fragments, found at the site that conjure up the past. I drew the image with ‘lines’ and ‘dots’ in deference to the Dharruk people. This area had been used as a quarry for thousands of years. Possibly the oldest known evidence of human occupation has been found here. It is a site of major significance.
