I made a fossil-like image to allude to the fossils, and evidence of tool fragments, found at the site that conjure up the past. I drew the image with ‘lines’ and ‘dots’ in deference to the Dharruk people. This area had been used as a quarry for thousands of years. Possibly the oldest known evidence of human occupation has been found here. It is a site of major significance. This work was made in response to the contamination of the Gasworks Park site. The wood chips are representative of our exploitation of place, by laying the wood-chips on the ground as a Labyrinth they can symbolically recover or heal the ground and be absorbed back into the earth. Visitors engaging with this ancient symbol, follow the path to the centre from where a 180-degree turn is required to navigate a way out.
